How to Get Unstuck and Make Better Decisions

Let me just cut to it—getting stuck sucks. Whether it’s indecision, overthinking, or just flat-out mental fatigue, we’ve all been there. And in a world that’s moving faster than ever, staying stuck for too long isn’t just inconvenient—it’s costly.

Most of us think that the answer is “more thinking.” More time, more logic, more planning. But the truth? You don’t get clarity from thinking. You get clarity from doing.

You see, we all want certainty. We want to make the perfect decision. But here’s the thing: perfection is a moving target. I may have perfect clarity right now, but in two seconds, something changes—and boom, that clarity is gone. So if you’re chasing perfection before taking action, you’re actually chasing the past. That’s not where progress lives.

Why You’re Actually Stuck

When people say they’re stuck, it usually boils down to one of three things:

  1. Fear of getting it wrong

  2. Waiting for perfect information

  3. Not trusting themselves to handle what happens next

Sound familiar?

And look, I get it. We’re living in a world of endless data, tools, and “what if” scenarios. The irony is: the more tools we have to make decisions, the harder decisions have become.

But if we strip it all back, decision-making always follows the same three layers:

Emotion → Logic → Action (Behavior)

Emotion comes first. It's that gut reaction. But gut isn't magic—it’s usually built from thousands of micro-decisions and past experiences your brain has already processed.

Then comes logic. Your brain filters the emotion, makes sense of it, and decides what to do. Finally, there’s action—what you actually do—and that’s the only part the world sees. That’s where results come from.

The Real Reason You’re Overthinking

Let’s talk about planning for a sec. Everyone’s obsessed with planning. We’ve got tools, templates, Notion boards, strategic off-sites—you name it.

But the truth? The purpose of planning is clarity—so you can start executing. Overplanning is just perfection in disguise.

In today’s world, you’ve got three choices:

  • What are you going to do yourself?

  • What are you going to delegate?

  • And what are you going to automate?

Most people think in that order. But the real efficiency comes when you flip it: automate first, then delegate, then do only what’s left. That’s leverage.

Use This Three-Step Framework Instead

Here’s what works—consistently:

1. Decode Your Patterns

Before you can improve how you make decisions, you have to understand how you already do it. Are you someone who makes snap calls based on “gut”? That’s probably just your past experience disguised as instinct. You’ve trained your nervous system to respond that way.

So here’s the real question: Is that still serving you?

Sometimes our “instinct” is actually outdated programming. That’s where tools like the AccuMatch Map come in. They help you spot the blind spots, the automatic behaviors that are either slowing you down—or speeding you up in the wrong direction.

If you want to make better decisions, start by decoding your defaults.

2. Define Your Outcome, Not Just the Goal

Most people focus on tasks, goals, to-do lists. But that’s not the real target.

You need to define your outcome—what you actually want to experience, achieve, or feel at the end.

It’s not just about emotion, though emotion plays a role. Think of it this way: an outcome gives you direction. Goals are steps along the way, but outcomes are the reason the journey exists.

Want to go deeper? Practice spatial intelligence—the ability to see the outcome first, then work backward from it. If you’re not good at that yet, that’s okay. It’s a skill, and you can learn it. (Start with simple “what if” scenarios or chunking exercises from NLP.)

3. Decide, Then Course Correct

Look, not making a decision is also a decision. And often, it's the most expensive one.

When you delay a decision because you're chasing the perfect one, you lose time. And time? That’s money. That’s momentum. That’s confidence. In leadership, if you're not confident in your decisions, your team can feel it. Your clients can feel it. You don’t need to say anything—they’ll pick it up in your tone, your body language, your lack of direction.

So here’s my rule: The 24-Hour Bias Reset.

Give yourself 24 hours to make a decision. Not perfect—just clear. Decide, take action, and then gather feedback. That’s how you build better instincts. That’s how you grow.

You can’t become a great runner by reading about marathons. You can’t be great at business by watching someone else’s playbook. You’ve gotta run your own laps. Hit the wall. Learn. Adjust.

yes or no options on hands

The Power of Simplified Filters

When it comes to choices, don’t overcomplicate things. Try this:

Take your options and compare them two at a time:

  • This or that?

  • Winner goes to the next round.

  • This or that?

  • Again.

It’s quick, it’s strategic, and it avoids information paralysis.

Old school? Maybe. But it works. Because the goal isn't to be right, it’s to move—and then adjust based on what you learn.

Here's a Quick Exercise

Pick one thing you’re currently stuck on. It could be personal or business—anything where you’ve been circling for too long.

Now ask yourself:

  • What behavior am I repeating here?

  • What’s my default response?

  • What’s the actual outcome I want?

Then, make a decision. Just the first step. Don’t plan the whole journey. Take action—and watch how clarity follows.

Final Thought

Clarity doesn’t come from more thinking. It comes from doing, reflecting, adjusting—and doing again. It comes from knowing yourself, aligning your actions with your values, and trusting the process.

Want help decoding your behavior patterns? That’s what we do. The AccuMatch Map and Behavior Intelligence™ approach were designed exactly for this.

Reach out. Let’s get you unstuck—for good.
